Intentional Craftsmanship by Olivia Appel

Originally from Chicago, I am a ceramic artist whose work explores the space between sculpture and function. Drawing on an interest in geometric form, material precision, and considered craftsmanship, I create objects that balance utility with a sculptural presence.

Working primarily in clay, I investigate how simplicity can carry meaning through proportion, surface, and form. My practice includes both functional ware and one-of-a-kind sculptural works, each made by hand and informed by an ongoing exploration of how objects shape—and are shaped by—the spaces they occupy.

Recently, I completed an intensive professionalization program in ceramics in Barcelona, studying with Corrie Bain, Juan Ortí, Miriam Seguí, Mariko Chiba, and other leading artists and educators. This experience further developed my technical approach while refining the conceptual direction of my practice.

I currently work wherever my practice takes me, sharing new projects, exhibitions, and available work through this website. I welcome inquiries regarding commissions, collaborations, and acquisitions.
